NEWS WATCH: X-MEN #20 Finds Mystique Fighting To Bring Back Destiny

The lynchpin in the Krakoan era of mutantkind is the ability to bring deceased mutants back to life, with two exceptions: no multiple versions of one person (Cable/Kid Cable/Stryfe) can exist at once, and mutants with precognitive abilities, such as Destiny, the wife of Mystique.

For months now, Professor X and Magneto, along with the Quiet Council, have been telling Mystique that they are willing to make an exception for Destiny, using it as a way to ensure her involvement on missions she wouldn’t otherwise sign up for. The catch is, in 2019’s House of X #2, it was revealed that Moira and Destiny are at odds when it comes to the future of the mutant race.  As Destiny died, she warned Mystique of the rise of the mutant nation and that the leaders of the mutant nation would tease her resurrection only to deny it in the end.

Now in the upcoming issue of X-Men #20, Mystique and her deceased wife Destiny are about to take center stage thanks to writer Jonathan Hickman, artist Francesco Mobili, and colorist Sunny Gho.

Mystique continuing, for the time being, to go along with the mutantkind brain trust, hopes for Destiny’s resurrection,  while at the same time in the back of her mind, remembers the words Destiny spoke that they would ultimately deny it, making it  Mystique’s responsibility to tear down Krakoa and its leaders.

X-Men #20 goes on sale on shelves and digital platforms on May 26, 2021
