Same Mxyzptlk different actor on “Supergirl”
Best known for his roles on Reno 911 and The Slate Thomas Lennon is a very funny man and has a made successful career in Hollywood doing just that, so it is of little wonder that the CW’s hit show Supergirl has tapped him to play the next incarnation of supervillain Mxyzptlk in the fifth season of the series.
First coming to annoy Superman to no end in 1944’s Superman #30 Mxyzptlk is a magical being from the 5th dimension in an orange and purple outfitted with a stately bowler to pull it all off. While only meaning to have fun he lives to torment Superman to the point of catastrophe for everyone around him. The impish prankster can usually be banished by getting him to say his name backward (Kltpzyxm)
Lennon’s portrayal of Mxyzptlk works well as the character is a changeling that can morph into anything or anyone he wants. Lennon is the latest live-action rendition of the otherworldly trickster which started with Michael J Pollard in the Superboy series of the late ’80s, then by Howie Mandel in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, followed by Trent Ford in Smallville, and lastly by Peter Gadiot in season two of Supergirl. There should be no doubt that Lennon will make the perfect reality-bending hellion to give the girl of steel the funniest worst day of her super life.
