Hot on the heels of Esai Morales having been cast as Slade Wilson, the mercenary known as Deathstroke, it has been announced that Chella Man has been cast for the role of his son, Joseph Wilson (aka the Titan Jericho) for the upcoming second season of Titans on DC Universe.
A student at New York University, Man is also a model, and a well-known YouTuber with a following of 173,000 (with over 2.5 million views) who has shared his personal story of gender transition and living life as someone who is deaf, Genderqueer, Chinese, and Jewish. Among his list of accomplishments are contributions to multiple blogs, such as Conde Nast’s Them. Man is also a prolific speaker on gender, identity, race, and disability.
The producers for Titans describe Jericho as being “[The] son of the infamous DC Villain Deathstroke, Joseph Wilson is the Titans known as Jericho. Mute after his father failed to rescue him from having his vocal cords severed by assassins, Jericho has the unique ability to possess anyone by just making eye contact. This gentle-natured yet proud hero has proven himself a formidable Titan.”
Jericho made his debut in Tales of the Teen Titans #43, back in 1984, as a hero whose powers are activated by his gaze – locking eyes with others allows him to control their bodies, so that he may speak through them, amongst other things. Having been a Titan for as long as he has, and having lived through a few different Crises, Jericho has been many things, from hero to a corrupted character, tainted by the souls of Azarath. What direction Titans will take Jericho in remains to be seen, but it’s probable that the Titans are gaining a powerful new ally in their fight against Trigon and, eventually, Deathstroke.
Titans wrapped up its premiere run in December 2018. The premiere for the second season has yet to be announced.
