The annual Heroes & Villains trailer offers a sneak peek at what’s in store for the future of the Arrowverse, and this year it’s all about Batwoman!
The CW recently confirmed that Batwoman would be debuting during the annual Arrowverse crossover event between DC Comics shows including Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. Now, the latest Heroes & Villains trailer offers a tease of the latest masked vigilante to join the fray.
The popular annual crossover event could potentially act as a backdoor pilot for Batwoman as well, with Caroline Dries (Smallville, The Vampire Diaries) currently writing a pilot episode and Greg Berlanti set to once again produce. If she is successful in her debut, the pilot could be picked up by The CW, adding to the already lengthy list of DC Comics shows from the network.
Batwoman’s first appearance was in Detective Comics #233 in 1956, however, she was more recently reintroduced to DC Comics during the New 52 reboot as a vigilante who was inspired to put on the mask after being rescued by Batman in an alleyway one night. She was also established as a Jewish lesbian, expelled from West Point due to the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy and in a sometimes unhealthy relationship with Renee Montoya. Kate Kane as Batwoman became the first lesbian superhero for a solo title DC character.
Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen has mentioned the infamous city of Gotham on Arrow before, and it has been teased on The Flash as well. However, it will be interesting to see the infamous city more in-depth through the perspective of such a powerful character like Kate Kane’s Batwoman.
We still have no word on who has been cast as Batwoman, but the next CW crossover event will debut this December and if the Batwoman pilot is picked up by The CW, her own series could air as soon as 2019.
Check back for more information as it releases on Batwoman joining the Arrowverse. We will be watching!
