Some exciting news for Star Wars fans following a recent Disney event where a brief glimpse was given of the characters set to star in their new animated series ‘Star Wars: Resistance’!
Although it isn’t much, a brief look at the art from Disney’s upcoming animated series Star Wars: Resistance was revealed at the 2018 Disney France Partners Event. During the slideshow, two drawings featuring several different characters on both the dark and light side were shown.
While most details are still being kept under wraps regarding Dave Filoni’s latest Star Wars series, there is some early speculation of what these pictures mean. One of the more interesting characters is the red stormtrooper in the First Order, as many are speculating that could be the character ‘Cardinal’ from the novel Star Wars: Phasma by Delilah S. Dawson.
Star Wars: Resistance is reportedly set before the events of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, following a young pilot named Kazuda Xiono who is on a mission to spy on The First Order. The series will also include appearances from characters like Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma with the original actors providing their voices.
Dave Filoni’s work with the Star Wars franchise is often highly regarded as fans, so it would surely be interesting to see what he has come up with following the incredibly popular animated series Star Wars: Rebels!
“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.” – Dave Filoni
While there hasn’t been an official premiere date announced, Lucasfilm has said it will debut on the Disney Channel this Fall and will eventually move to Disney XD (similar to what happened to Star Wars: Rebels).
