NEWS WATCH: ‘The Predator’ Reshoots Most of Final Act

A few months ago, ‘The Predator’ actor Keegan-Michael Key provided some details on the reshoots from director Shane Black, but now we know just how extensive they were.

Studios ordering “reshoots” or what is essentially additional photography has become more and more routine lately. While some, such as those Star Wars: Rogue One underwent, prove to be worth the time and money by helping to create a massively successful film, others are not so lucky (Justice League, for starters). One major determining factor can be who exactly is writing the additional shots though.

When it comes to Shane Black’s Predator film, 20th Century Fox isn’t holding anything back. According to actor Keegan-Michael Key, the director was brought in to rework nearly the entire third act.

“…just about three-quarters of the third act was rewritten. And Shane Black is… he’s just a consummate professional, and a consummate writer. He’s a wordsmith! It was a really, really exhilarating experience, and I think that he’s still one of our most vibrant writers of cinema.” – Keegan-Michael Key

While he does provide some insight into how extensive the reshoots were, it is important to note that Shane Black (both co-writer and director) was brought in again, hopefully giving him the extra time needed to perfect the film.

Now, thanks to AvPGalaxy, we have details on exactly what to expect from the additional photography…

Beware SPOILERS!

According to AvPGalaxy, the latest edits of the film following the reshoots includes cutting the “friendly Predators” seen from leaked photos on set as well as various other hybrid creatures. Apparently, only the Predator Dog (another leak from set visits) remains.

The major death sequences for the more important characters have also been altered, even the location of the “final battle” against the Upgrade Predator has been changed to take place at night in the woods.

In a more exciting twist, Shane Black also tested various scenes that connects The Predator to previous films in the franchise, including Alien vs. Predator! Lex’s spear is reportedly displayed alongside the City Hunter’s spear from Predator 2, and Olivia Munn’s character somehow obtains a few grainy pictures of the Predators from the first two films.

While the reshoots were certainly extensive, 20th Century Fox looks to be addressing some of fan’s most evident issues with the film. Hopefully, these will result in a much more cohesive and enjoyable film for everyone!

As always, check back for more information as it releases…
