NEWS WATCH: Marvel Announces New ‘Shuri’ Ongoing Series

Black Panther’s genius sister, Shuri, is set to headline her own ongoing comic series from Marvel Comics this October!

Marvel Comics has recently announced a new ongoing series from Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero and award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor focusing on T’Challa’s incredibly popular sister, Shuri. The spin-off series will follow Shuri as she takes on a prominent role within Wakanda while her brother is lost on a space mission.

With Shuri next in line for the throne of Wakanda, she must leave her studies to tend to her people in need after their king’s disappearance. This is the official synopsis provided by Marvel…

“Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one, and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda’s welfare and her own.”

Although there hasn’t been a specific release date confirmed as of yet, we have gotten a look at a variant cover by artists Carlos Pacheco, Rafael Fonteriz and Laura Martin.

While Ta-Nehisi Coates continues his groundbreaking stories on Marvel’s Black Panther ongoing series, Shuri quickly became “everyone’s favorite Disney princess” after the MCU’s overwhelmingly popular Black Panther film, played by the talented Letitia Wright. This is a great step by Marvel for providing inclusiveness through a well-deserving character with the potential for some really great stories. Fans will certainly be eager to follow Shuri on her very own ongoing series!

Check back for more information as it releases! As always, we will be watching.
