Beloved Marvel Comics writer and cameo extraordinaire Stan Lee will no longer be performing public autograph signings.
Unfortunately, Stan Lee has reached the point where he can no longer participate in public signings. Legions of fans have shown up in admiration of the famous Marvel Comics writer and personality over the years, making his signatures possibly one of the most popular among comic fans. His absence will certainly be missed.
Bleeding Cool recently spoke to Jonathan Bolerjack, who is one of the people actively looking after Stan Lee, where he clarified any misconceptions about his availability.
“To be very clear, Stan is 100% not doing any conventions / public signings. In the last few years his well being had been compromised by people for monetary gain and that practice is over.
His private signings had also been paused for a month while Stan’s life gets back to normal and time could be given to review signing deals made by previous people involved in Stan’s life.
As of this week, Stan is signing a very small amount of items per week at his discretion, some for Desert Wind. This has proven frustrating for some as people are used to Stan signing hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of books a day, however, my concern is for Stan’s health and wishes so he signs what he wants when he wants, which is as it always should be.” – Jonathan Bolerjack
According to Desert Wind Comics who hosts signing events with Lee, fans who are hoping to still get an autograph will be able to submit their materials up until August 18th.
“As many of you know, Stan Lee has been getting older and as such signing opportunities are getting more rare. And getting books signed that are eligible for CGC Signature Series Grading is becoming more difficult. The exact date and location of this signings will not be announced for security reasons. So we are simply authorized to announce accepting books early and will accept books up to the deadline, so submit early so you don’t get caught by surprise and miss the signing.
The price to get a modern tier book signed and graded is $205.00. That price includes grading of a modern tier book, our witnessing and handling fee and Stan’s signing fee. Nongraded comic books or raw items like posters and toys are priced beginning at $175.00 and depend on the size and value of the item. These prices do NOT include return shipping or the CGC $5.00 form fee. Please refer to the Celestial-comics.com website for other costs such as shipping and fast-track fees. You must fill out a Celestial-Comics submission form found on our website to submit with any books submitted. There are NO limitations to the number of books submitted.
Books for these signings can get additional signatures on them depending on shows and other private signings that take place. Please contact Desert Wind regarding getting additional signatures on the book prior to Stan’s signing. We look forward to helping customers to get their books signed by Stan. We started the Stan CGC signings back in 2008 and are super excited to be able to continue this signing for fans and collectors alike. Please send all emails questions to Sharon@celestial-comics.com.” – Desert Wind Comics
While it is always unfortunate to see a legend retire from such activities, it is good to see that Stan Lee has people supporting him and watching over his health in his older age. If you are still hoping to get a signature from Lee before he retires, be sure not to miss the August 18th deadline for submitting materials to Desert Wind Comics!
Check back for more information as it releases. We will be watching.
