Warner Bros. and DC Comics are currently developing a feature film based on the popular Kyrptonian, Supergirl!
According to an exclusive story from Deadline, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are currently developing a live-action feature film based on Supergirl, the Kryptonian heroine, and cousin of Superman.
While not much information about the film has been released as of yet, we do know that Oren Uziel is working on the script. Uziel has written previous films such as 22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox, and the upcoming reboot of Mortal Kombat.
This potential move from DC could make for another multiple casting situation similar to the Flash, where actors Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller currently each portray the character in different mediums. With Melissa Benoist on the hit CW show Supergirl reaching fans everywhere with topical themes, it will be interesting to see how Warner Bros. and DC decide to approach a cinematic interpretation.
The move to add Supergirl to the DC Cinematic Universe is another step in the direction away from their previous entries that were often described as “too dark” and “gloomy”. Although, fans noticed an easter egg in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel film years ago that could point to this being a planned introduction.
With films like Joaquin Phoenix’s The Joker and Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey quickly approaching on DC’s slate of upcoming films, a Supergirl film could prove to be a welcome addition of hope to the cinematic universe!
Stay tuned for more information on the Supergirl feature film as it releases. As always, we will be watching!
