NEWS WATCH: “Solo” Star Emilia Clarke Credits Ron Howard for Saving Movie

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Emilia Clarke discussed her frustrations with Solo’s original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and how she believes Ron Howard saved the movie.

In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, Emilia Clarke shared her feelings regarding the directorial issues behind the Solo film, even going so far as to claim that Disney bringing in Ron Howard saved the film.

All hail to [Lucasfilm president] Kathy [Kennedy] for hiring Ron,” Clarke told Vanity FairHe even feigned enthusiasm!”, she said regarding discussions with Howard about her character. “I know for a fact that he had a discussion with everybody. I think we all came to set feeling like his favorite. It makes for a really happy load of actors, with our egos.

The troubles behind the production of Solo have been well documented so far, giving insight into the difficulties of working with directors Lord & Miller. Clarke even experienced troubles with her own character, Qi’ra.

I’m not gonna lie,” Clarke says. “I struggled with Qi’ra quite a lot. I was like: ‘Y’all need to stop telling me that she’s “film noir,” because that ain’t a note.’

Despite the issues experienced, the significance of the film isn’t lost on anyone, including Emilia Clarke who admittedly felt the pressure of working on a project like Solo.

When it comes to that amount of money, you’re almost waiting for that to happen. Money fucks us all up, doesn’t it? There’s so much pressure. Han Solo is a really beloved character. This is a really important movie for the franchise as a whole. It’s a shit ton of money. A shit ton of people. A shit ton of expectations.

With all of the stories surrounding what could have happened to the Solo movie because of Lord & Miller,  it seems both Disney and audiences are lucky that Ron Howard agreed to come in and save it!
