NEWSWATCH: The Old Guard Gets Director Gina Prince-Bythewood

Gina Prince-Bythewood is set to direct Image Comics ‘The Old Guard’ filming to start as soon as this fall for 2019 release.

The Old Guard was published in February 2017 by Image Comics. Written by Eisner Winner Greg Rucka and art by Leandro Fernandez. The Old Guard is a story of soldiers who could never die. Female lead Andy and her companions learn that a life of immorality is worse than death. In the day and age of social media, selfies and security cameras, immortality is not an easy secret to keep. Andy and her team are unsure why they are trapped in a cycle of life without the ability to die.

Gina Prince-Bythewood is no stranger to comic book live action series as she has directed Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger on freeform. She also has her name attached to Spider-Man spin-off Silver and Black. The movie will be produced by Skydance, they hope to start shooting this fall for a 2019 release date.
