Oni Press Partners with SpectreVision for Look into the Unknown in New Series HIGH STRANGENESS

Oni Press announces it will be partnering with SpectreVision, the genre driven film production company founded in part by Elijah Wood, to produce a new series, High Strangeness. More information about the series and its creative team will be released during this weekend’s Los Angeles Comic Con, but the publisher has shared some general details about the book. High Strangeness explores the intersection of fact and fiction, tracking a series of paranormal phenomena throughout the 20th century.

In the press release, Elijah Wood discussed bring this story to comics, stating:

“Comics feel uniquely suited to explore this wide-ranging spectrum of paranormal phenomena, utilizing the limitless possibilities of the medium to give shape to the often gaussian accounts of what cannot be explained through traditional means.“

The book will also feature a creative consultant in the form of Jim Perry, a podcaster with an expert knowledge of all things that go bump in the night. Perry is best known as a producer and host for the podcast, Euphomet, which takes an honest look at the unexplained. Alongside this information, Oni also shared a teaser image for the series, illustrated by Malachi Ward, which can be seen below.

The President & Publisher of Oni Press, Hunter Gorinson, also discussed the partnership between the publisher and production company in the press release, stating:

“Over the past decade, so many members of the Oni team and greater comics community have been inspired and influenced by SpectreVision’s extraordinary body of work. Together, we share a mutual fascination with the extremities of human understanding – where aliens, poltergeists, demons, fairies, and other entities all seem to extend like fingers from a hidden hand. Through the uniquely powerful lens of comic storytelling, we intend to tell an array of stories exploring these multiple manifestations, but rooted in the same common understanding: Reality is thin around the edges . . . and if we press hard enough in exactly the right places, it just might shatter.”

More information about High Strangeness will be released during a panel at L.A. Comic Con on Sunday, December 3.
