Patrick Stewart Returns as Capt Picard!

They Made It So! Picard is Back!

CBS All Access is building a Star Trek Universe of shows. On the tails of Star Trek Discovery, which is returning for a second season, CBS has announced a third series has been added which will feature the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Patrick Stewart announced the news at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention (his last appearance as the much-beloved Captain was in 2002’s Star Trek Nemesis). The new series is not a continuation of The Next Generation but will instead focus on the next chapter of the life of Jean-Luc Picard. However, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see a familiar face or two pop up from ST:TNG though nothing has been announced. The title of the new show as well as when it will debut have yet to be announced.

Patrick Stewart was recently seen in a comedy on Starz called Blunt. He is looking forward to catching up with Jean-Luc and discovering more facets of the character.
This news follows the announcement of a four-part limited series, Star Trek: Short Treks.
Curiously, reactions from fans are mixed. Some fear damage will be done to the Picard they love under the guidance of  Alex Kurtzman, whose recent work includes The Mummy (2017), TransformersThe Amazing Spider-Man and Star Trek Discovery, which has polarized fans of Star Trek. Mostly, it’s the same rumblings against having to pay for Star Trek on CBS All-Access. Filling out the calendar with more Trek is one way CBS All-Access hopes to retain subscribers throughout the year when Star Trek Discovery isn’t on.
