The comics industry mourns the passing of Justin Ponsor, 42, after he lost his battle with cancer on the morning of May 18th, 2019. Ponsor’s diagnosis became widely known when a GoFundMe was launched earlier this year by close friend Alex Car. The world followed him through treatment but ultimately his journey came to an end, surrounded by family and friends in his home.
Ponsor was a well-trusted colorist in the industry for decades, having worked for CrossGen, Wildstorm, and most prominently Marvel. Dozens of high profile projects, from Spider-Man to The Avengers passed across his desk where he brought many iconic moments to life but perhaps none more significant than his role in the rise of Ultimate Comics’ Miles Morales, Spider-Man.
The outpouring from friends, fans, and colleagues, including the likes of Jason Aaron and Brian Michael Bendis, show how loved and respected Justin was in the community. Rest in Power, Justin Ponsor.
