BREAKING NEWS: Shatterstar, Mojoworlds Second Son Gets Second Limited Series this October!

Out, Proud, and on the loose the new Shatterstar series offers a deeper look into the characters life.

Starting this October the otherworldly mutant action star called Shatterstar goes it alone. Shatterstar has been many things in his short life warrior, assassin, gladiator, superhero, and lover but now he’s on his own and has to discover another aspect of who he really is. Fall of 2018 ready yourself for a journey through the darkness with the deadly SHATTERSTAR #1!

The series will be written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Carlos Villa, the mini could be a new beginning for this fan-favorite X-Man. In a recent interview with Marvel the writer Tim Seeley explained his affection for the character, “I was 12 years-old when I first saw Shatterstar in the pages of NEW MUTANTS, and I was the perfect age to be intrigued by him,” and went on to say, “The dude’s an alien gladiator! And within pages of us meeting him, he stabs himself with his own swords in order to kill the bad guy standing behind him.”

Seeley seems to want to show his evolution of this character by shedding some light on the darker internal struggle our hero is facing and was excited to express that when he said “My interest in him now is more in the ‘hardboiled noir’ aspects of the character,” in an interview with Marvel. “He’s this guy whose life was violence for sport—and now he’s trying to move on from that. But it’s such a thin thread that keeps him in this new line of lawfulness, and it’s an easy one to break.” Seeley also said during that interview to expand on his take of the material.

It’s also safe to say Seeley plans to bring his A-game to Shatterstar with tweets like

and honor the relationship he and Rictor have for each other when the duo came out as lovers during Shatterstars time with X-Factor.

It looks like Seeley came to Marvel with the idea for the new book as “When the life he built crumbles, Shatterstar is forced to ask himself if he truly ever gave up the gladiator ring. The series will be part John Wick, a dash of Will Eisner’s A Contract with God, and infused with lots of lots of inter-dimensional X-Men Super Hero mythos.” he said when asking about his pitch during an interview with the publisher. The writer also appears to take a lot of stock in the X-Men stories of the 80’s and 90’s “I really stuck close to the Fabian Nicieza, Rob Liefeld stuff—especially those last few issues of NEW MUTANTS where you can see the purest form of this guy. I also really leaned on the LONGSHOT limited series by Ann Nocenti and Art Adams, as well as the ‘Shattershot’ storyline from the old X-Men annuals.” Seeley said wrapping up his interview with Marvel.

On October 3, 2018, rediscover Shatterstar with Tim Seeley and Carlos Villa as they present the all-new limited series SHATTERSTAR #1!
