Stan Lee Rebukes Sexual Harrassment Allegations

Comic book legend, Marvel creator Stan Lee, 95, has been hit with several allegations of sexual assault and harassment by nurses caring for him , accused of groping nurses and demanding oral sex in the shower at his $20m Los Angeles home, but Lee says he is the victim of a ‘shakedown’!

The Marvel creator is alleged to have repeatedly groped and harassed a string of young female nurses employed to care for him.  He is said to have asked for oral sex in the shower, walked around naked and wanted to be ‘pleasured’ in the bedroom.  The nursing company which employs the women and caters for celebrities and high-end clients is now in a legal dispute with Comic Industry icon Stan Lee, but as yet no police complaint has been made and no lawsuits filed.  A lawyer representing Lee told the press that Lee ‘categorically denies’ the ‘false and despicable’ allegations and fully intends to clear his ‘stellar good name’ and suggested the allegations could be part of a shakedown.

Lee is the former president and chairman of Marvel and co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, the X-Men, Hulk among many other beloved comic book heroes.

Stan Lee denies sexual misconduct allegations made by several women working for the nursing company that he previously employed.  As the creator behind some of the most iconic Marvel heroes, the 95-year-old is well-loved in the industry and has expanded to film through his Marvel movie cameos.  He is also very vocal about social injustices as reflected in multiple of his comic narratives and characters.  That is why this particular news has been shocking to countless fans who view Lee as an honorable man.

Lee is one of the latest high-profile men who has been accused of improper behavior toward women that began with the industry-shaking report involving veteran producer Harvey Weinstein. In the months that followed, a number of other personalities in Hollywood have been outed for their inappropriate behavior in the workplace- most of them have already been removed from their current projects, including Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K., Brett Ratner, former DC Comics editor Eddie Berganza, Arrowverse producer Andrew Kreisberg, One Tree Hill producer Mark Schwahn, Girls writer/producer Murray Miller, Charlie Rose, and Matt Lauer.

Lee’s attorney, Tom Lallas, refutes the claims of alleged improper behavior by the comic book writer. He also went as far as saying that these accusations are nothing but a scheme to scam money from his client:

Mr. Lee categorically denies these false and despicable allegations and he fully intends to fight to protect his stellar good name and impeccable character. We are not aware of anyone filing a civil action, or reporting these issues to the police, which for any genuine claim would be the more appropriate way for it to be handled. Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media.

Lallas belatedly pointed out the fact that the accusers refuse to identify themselves making their motivations questionable.  He is adamant, “Mr. Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong.”

What happens from here remains to be seen.  It’s possible more women will come forward to either back up the story of these unidentified nurses or share their own encounters with Lee.  It is important to remember, however, that no matter how disappointing learning more about this particular scandal is for Marvel fans and comic book loyalists in general, we should always be open to hearing both sides of the story.  Unfortunately, at this point, it continues to be a she-says/he-says situation making navigating through this whole deal so much trickier, it’s best for everyone to view the facts before rushing into any judgment.
