Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with games, IP and toy company Hasbro, revealed the first batch of all-new “Gears of Joe” variant covers from fan-favorite artist Steve Beach (Green Lantern) for the smash hit series G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero. From legendary series writer Larry Hama (Marvel’s Wolverine), and artist Chris Mooneyham (Nightwing, Sgt. Rock and the Unknown Soldier), the landmark series’ issue #321 will arrive in comic book shops on October 8, 2025.
Spanning issues #321-330, Beach’s “Gears of Joe” variants each spotlight an iconic G.I. JOE character set alongside their signature vehicles and gear, which have become series characters in their own right.
The first wave of covers revealed today span issues #321-#326 and showcase, in order, Cobra Commander, Duke, Baroness, Shipwreck, Destro, and Cover Girl. The new cover series kicks off timed to the debut of a very important issue, which arrives in a way longtime fans know Larry Hama does best. 300 issues after the historic G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21, Hama does it again with another instant classic silent issue for #321. In this gripping issue with no dialogue, Snake-Eyes and Dawn must defend The Pit from an unexpected attack!

In addition to the new “Gears of Joe” 1:10 incentive cover series by Beach, G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero continues with main covers by the incomparable Andy Kubert (Marvel’s X-Men) and colorist Laura Martin and an open-to-order variant cover with a black and white version of Kubert’s main covers.
G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero is a cornerstone of the historic collaboration between Skybound and Hasbro, alongside the shared Energon Universe that features ongoing series Void Rivals by Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and artist Conor Hughes (White Ash, The Game), TRANSFORMERS by writer Daniel Warren Johnson and artist Jorge Corona (Middlewest), and G.I. JOE by writer Joshua Williamson (Superman, Dark Ride) and artist Andrea Milana (Cobra Commander).
