DC UNIVERSE

The new streaming service that will be the home of DC content is said to be premiering towards the end of 2018. But don’t expect to see The CW Arrowverse shows on just yet as Netflix has exclusive rights to those shows. So far some of the exclusive shows DC Universe will feature include:

NETFLIX

Netflix has been showing a strong push for genre programming (Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy). They have the most on their schedule.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the graphic novels of the same name about a dysfunctional family of super heroes working together to solve their father’s death. The cast includes Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castaneda as Diego, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aidan Gallagher as Number Five and Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison. Scheduled for 2018 but subject to change.

Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight is an anthology series still in development.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina set in the same universe as The CW’s Riverdale this show will be a dark growing up and coming of age tale for Sabrina (The Teen-Age Witch) Spellman (Kiernan Shipka). It was originally going to be on The CW until Netflix bought it late last year. There are 20 episodes set to air in 2018 and will feature the occult, horror, witchcraft in the same vein as The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby. Sabrina will struggle to come to terms with being half human and half witch.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set in the world of Thra and concerns a dark secret of the Skeksis’ power. A rebellion rises to save the world. Scheduled for 2018/2019.

The Witcher is a US/Polish production about monster hunters. Currently in production.

The Order College freshman Jack Morton discovers “The Order”, a secret society of sorcery and monsters engaged in a war with the dark arts and werewolves. Starring Jack Manley as Jack Morton, featuring Sam Trammel (True Blood). Scheduled for December 15, 2018.

The Haunting of Hill House a ten episode series based on the Shirley Jackson novel. Starring Paxton Singleton and Samantha Sloyan and Catherine Parker. 2018.

Lucifer And speak of the devil, Netflix has rescued the recently cancelled Lucifer for a season 4. No word yet on when it will premier, but since the show is all set up I would think it would air in the fall or at latest, winter.

The Innocents is a UK production about a teen age supernatural love story. Two kids with extraordinary gifts run away from their repressive homes and unleash dark forces. Does not appear to have any relation to the classic movie of the same name. Scheduled to debut August 24, 2018. 8 episodes.

Locke And Key A pilot for this IDW comic book series was commissioned in 2011 for FOX who passed on it. Then it was remade and all set to go for Hulu who passed at the last minute. Now a third attempt has been ordered by Netflix. The show follows three siblings who move with their mother to a strange old house and find magical keys that give them strange powers and unlocks doors in the house. If all goes well this time, the show should premier in 2019.

HULU

Castle Rock is based on the stories of Stephen King and features various charactres interacting in the town of Castle Rock which has been used in several King novels. Premiers July 25th on Hulu.

The First A fictionalized account of the first manned trip to Mars features Sean Penn in his small screen debut. Scheduled for 2018. 8 episodes.

AMAZON

Good Omens Terry Pratchett’s terror-comedy spoof of The Omen starring Michael Sheen and David Tenent. What if The Anti-Christ was sent to the wrong family to be raised?

The Boys Starring Karl Urban about CIA operatives charged with keeping super heroes in line. 8 episodes 2019.

The Lord of the Rings Amazon beat out several other studios for the rights to The Lord of the Rings which they report will be a 5 season deal. It’s supposed to be set before The Hobbit and may possibly be about a young Aragorn. The earliest we may see it is 2019. Ian McKellan has expressed interest in reprising his role as Gandalf but says no one has asked him.

You ever wonder why shows you like disappear, like Lucifer?
