NEWS WATCH: Sweet Christmas Comes a Little Early Thanks to J. Scott Campbell’s New Luke Cage Variant Covers

Marvel highlights the 50th anniversary of a leading street level hero, Luke Cage aka Power Man, in a new variant cover for Daredevil. The cover – drawn and colored by J. Scott Campbell – will be available when Daredevil #4 releases in October of this year. Just like all of Campbell’s anniversary covers, will also be available in a retro version and as a virgin cover.

This is yet another installment in Campbell’s cover work to honor these enduring characters with anniversary covers, having previously illustrated variants for Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, and Ant-Man.

“It’s a thrill and an honor to create cover art celebrating the anniversary of characters that have become so iconic and ingrained in our culture,” Campbell said. “I really wanted to make images that would have a visual bridge from the pulpy 4 color origins of these monumental heroes to the modern day slick coloring and production we are now all familiar with.”

The cover and anniversary come just in time for Cage’s newest status quo shift, in which the former Hero For Hire has taken up the role of New York City mayor. The premise spun out of the massive Daredevil event, Devil’s Reign, and Cage’s first task as mayor is restoring the Thunderbolt name, as seen in the recently launched Thunderbolts #1.

Daredevil #4 and its Luke Cage themed variant go on sale 10/12 and can be purchased anywhere comics are sold. For more information visit marvel.com.
