Ok, I spend an inordinate amount of time looking at comic art and fan art. It’s my thing. I love coming across new art of my favorite comic characters and sharing it with others. I figured why not use this platform to do that as well. So this is the first installment of what I hope to make a regular column that will draw attention to artists that are not necessarily ” in” mainstream comics and helping show of the wonderful art they make to our audience.
So unless you don’t follow comics and X-Men you will know that the HELLFIRE GALA has kicked off and we are being treated to a 12 part mutant social event that will chart the course forward for mutantkind going forward and that the first three issues dropped this week. We are being treated to a high fashion, action-packed drama and reveals. The response from fans online has been fantastic with people showing off their own amazing mutant fashion they’ve cooked up on their own as well as artists drawing FAN ART of the wonderful designs of artists like Russell Dauterman, Stephen Segovia, Lucas Werneck, Marcus To, and all the other Marvel artists involved on the project.
Ricardo Anderson Galvao Sales
That leads me to the subject of this TALENT WATCH: Ricardo Anderson Galvao Sales or as he signs his art Kinho Anderson which is the name he adopted in honor of his late father who used to call him Kinho, a nickname when he was younger. Ricardo is 45 and lives in a small town in the northeast of Brazil called Goiana. Below are some questions we asked him as well as a good look at the amazing Hellfire Gala sketch card art he has been doing:
Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm
CW: Are you a professional artist?
KA: I’m just a regular full time Elementary and High School teacher who loves teaching and drawing. I draw to relax and try to make some money
CW: What got you into art?
KA: Comics and TV cartoon. It was love at the first sight
Emma Frost, Bishop, and Iceman
CW: Are you into comics? What comics are you reading current and what is your personal favorite?
KA: I LOVE comics.
I read almost everything concerning the X-Men and the Titans. I really love superhero groups.
I love a lot of comics. It’s something more related to art.
Captain Britain, Rachel Summers,and Jubilee
CW: Who is your favorite X-Men and x book (if you are reading currently)
KA: I really like a lot of them so much! Now I’m reading House of X and Powers of X. It’s so nice someone finally give mutants a place to live and to call home.
CW: Who are you biggest artistic influences from both the regular art world and comics?
KA: I’m really passionate about the art of comics. Of course I appreciate all kinds of art, but comic books have been my thing since I started reading. Artists like George Perez, Arthur Adams, Alan Davis, Travis Charest, Adam Hughes, Doug Mankhe and so many others that wouldn’t even fit here now are definitely inspirations to me.
Wolverine, Kwannon, and the other Wolverine (Laura)
CW: Where can people find you and your art? (Website, social media etc?)
KA: Most of the time at school (hahaha)
