Way back in 2016, when I worked my first convention on the west coast, an ultra cool guy came to my table and bought a copy of Apama The Undiscovered Animal Vol. 1. I casually asked him what he did. He says, “I work in TV. I’m Ben Edlund. I created The Tick.”
That’s an all time highlight in my life. I’ve always been a gigantic Tick fan. That animated series — Little Wooden Boy — Proto-Clown — Chairface… fuggedaboutit. Then there was the live action show with Patrick Warburton which was INSANE, and the recent run on Amazon Prime was a ton of fun too.
When I heard Baltimore Comic Conwas honoring Ben Edlund this weekend with a souvenir book that has team-ups of the Tick and characters from all over the indie comic spectrum I wanted in.
My intention was to have one of our dudes (Benito, Donny, Butch, or Yvel) illustrate it, but the convention told me that the artist must be at the show.
So I took matters into my own hands with the penciling, coloring and graphics while recruiting Chis Arieswendha for the inks.
The image above is an homage to the cover of Wolverine #8by the great John Buscema!
The convention will be giving the print away for free to people who collect artist signatures.
