Comic Watch Pride: The Collector’s Corner: The Gay Comic Geek

A long, long time ago I knew a teacher of the sciences. He wasn’t an ordinary teacher who taught out of books and such. He liked to have his students learn through hands on experiences. He once brought a Mattel Creepy Crawler Thing Maker to class and asked his students to make little rubber creatures and name their species and explain the environment they lived in, and how they ate and how they protected themselves. The point I wish to make is not what a cool teacher he was (he was), but the messages he imparted to his 5th and 6th grades pupils: “never let the kid inside of you die”. Simple, yet very profound words.

I bring up the teacher because this special edition of The Collector’s Corner is focused on the collections and work of The Gay Comic Geek. I must warn you ahead I am told that some of the material may be considered NSFW. Can you imagine that? My first NSFW! I’m so naughty!

Paul Charles tells me that he his “secret origin” into the Gay Comic Geek was very simple: he was just looking for an on-line name and decided to go with “The Gay Comic Geek” and things just blossomed from there. But what I found very special about him was that he seemed to embody the teacher’s words to their fullest extent. You can see from his pictures that he actually takes his toys out of their packaging! The better to play with! But how many collectors do you know who leave all their precious action figures in the package and never once enjoy the experience of touching them? The gay Comic Geek has even customized a few of his own!

It’s not a question of Marvel or DC for him. He follows what he likes. His passions. He tells of his metamorphosis into becoming, well, a character of his own, it began when a friend photo-shopped some pictures of him. Since then, he has created quite a ward robe for himself…not only as The Gay Comic Geek but as other heroes he likes as well.

If I were to guess, I’d say Paul has a special place in his heart for The Masters of The Universe (that subversive cartoon series starring He-Man!)

Now, some of you may not know this but there are actual gay action figures (besides He-Man!). Tom Of Finland, a renowned gay erotic artist, has a doll patterned after his art and there were a whole series of “Billy” dolls which came with accessory costumes. There is even a doll based on 80’s porn star Jeff Stryker.

This last picture is funny to point out that the action figure just to Superman’s lower left (your right) holding a spear in one hand and his other hand, well…that is an actual Tarzan action figure from when the animated movie came out. And the figure was released in packaging with his hand right where you see it. There was also a similar Nightwing figure released like this. Both on the heels on the infamous Disney box art for The Little Mermaid which feature a castle in the background shaped like a male — oh, come, you know where I’m going with this! But what it all comes down to, as the above photos show, is the fun you can have with your toys when you take them out and play with them!

The Gay Comic Geek has become a true sensation. How do you tell? You have people making action figures of you!

The Gay Comic Geek can be seen around some cosplay conventions. But mostly what his pictures tell me is he is enjoying life and having fun…something we all should do more of. Even if it’s just playing with toys.
