Dark Horse unveiled a first look at the upcoming miniseries Frankenstein: New World – The Sea of Forever, the newest addition to the Hellboy universe. Continuing the story from Frankenstein: New World, the four issue miniseries reunites Mike Mignola with writers Christopher Golden & Thomas Sniegoski and artist Peter Bergting. The literary monster first appeared in Hellboy: House of the Living Dead, helping guide a small section of humanity to survival during an apocalyptic event.
Golden discussed returning to the character in the press release, stating:
“I am ridiculously excited about this series! Hellboy’s world may be over, but its echoes ripple through the New World, as you’ll discover in The Sea of Forever. There’s room for so many unique stories in this series. At the same time, Frankenstein and Lilja’s journey has a destination, and we can’t wait to bring you there!”
Now, Frankenstein and the young Lilja must return to the scarred surface world to battle an ancient evil according to the press release.
Speaking on the longevity of the character, Sniegoski stated:
“When Chris, Mike, Peter and I finished up Frankenstein: New World, we knew that we had lots of story still to tell . . . and thankfully, Dark Horse agreed. With Frankenstein: New World–The Sea of Forever, we’ve gotten the opportunity to delve even deeper into this evolving, post apocalyptic world full of beauty, wonder and a gradually growing evil on the verge of infecting this new, pristine world. I can’t wait for folks to see this next chapter in the Frankenstein: New World saga!”
Frankenstein: New World – The Sea of Forever launches in 2025, with no firm date provided by Dark Horse at this time. Stay tuned for more coverage as New York Comic Con begins this weekend.
