Marvel announces that horror comes to 2099 this January in Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man 2099. Following up on the plots of Spider-Man 2099: Exodus and Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis, the series will see Miguel O’Hara having to battle 2099 reimaginings of classic Marvel horror characters. Writer Steve Orlando is joined by a rotating series of artists to bring these twisted characters and concepts to life.
The terrors kick off with artist Devmalya Pramanik bringing the Marvel Zombies to unlife in issue #1. Then, Dracula returns to attack the moon thanks to Michael Dowling’s art. At the midway point, Spider-Man 2099 reaches its legacy numbered 100th issue, which features a fight between Spider-Man and Werewolf by 2099, illustrated by Jason Muhr. Artist Chris Campana then assembles a new Terror Inc in issue #4. Finally, artist Stefano Raffaele taps into the fears of man as Man-Thing is resurrected in 2099.
Orlando discussed getting the opportunity to blend magic and cyberpunk in the press release, stating:
“Returning to 2099 has been a blast, especially with the chance to do this series of one-shots crashing Miguel up against some of Marvel’s greatest horror icons–all of whom are newly debuting in 2099! I can’t think of a better reality to work in than the world of 2099–that dark, neon projection of our own modern day. And no matter the horror coming in the series, Spider-Man 2099 is set to defend his city and his people—whether it’s with a gravity-defying moon shot, an infestation of next-generation zombies, or helping a mercenary werewolf finally cut his leash!”
