Daredevil has a new mission and new guilt when his title relaunches this September. The man without fear had to make a new deal with the devil to escape hell with his soul at the end of Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s run, and that will chart a new course for his life. Writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Aaron Kuder will bring these new trials to light when Daredevil #1 launches.
As Matt explores his new role in God’s larger plans, Elektra keeps the Daredevil mantle and continues to protect the people of Hell’s Kitchen. According to the press release, Matt’s return awakens a long forgotten threat, and it will take both Daredevils to defeat.
Ahmed discussed his new take on Marvel’s original podcast series This Week in Marvel:
“I wanted to only take this job on if I felt like I had a new, unique take on Matt and on Hell’s Kitchen. And so that’s at the center of this… him and his world, but it’s the Marvel Universe. What I’ve really enjoyed in talking with other editors, other offices, is finding ways through these first couple of arcs we have planned to keep this centered on Matt, keep this centered on his people, in his world, but to bring (in a very organic and surprising fun way) some familiar Marvel figures that I think are going to blow people’s mind when they pop up on the page!”
Along with these details, Marvel has shared some of Kuder’s pencils for issue #1, along with some of the new variant covers for the debut issue. Those can be seen below:
