This July, the annual Hellfire Gala harkens the Fall of X, the newest chapter of the Krakoa era. The storyline is poised as the X-title’s version of Dark Reign, as the various enemies of the mutant nation gather and upset the balance of power established back in House of X and Powers of X.
No X-book will escape the uncertainty that the Fall of X brings, proved by a recent press release focusing on Immortal X-Men and X-Men Red.
The Fall of X news has so far focused on the new titles launching in the wake of the Hellfire Gala – Uncanny Avengers, Dark X-Men, Realm of X and Astonishing Iceman – but now Marvel turns the spotlight to what lies in store for continuing titles. In both Immortal X-Men #14 and X-Men Red #14, the tone of Krakoa shifts to doom and betrayal.
Immortal X-Men #14 – set for an August 9 release – will see Kieron Gillen and Lucas Werneck put Professor X at his lowest as the Quiet Council drops to a population of 1. The series, which has focused on the political maneuvering and cutting games played by the mutant government, has faced a massive upheaval between the Gillen-led events of Judgement Day and Sins of Sinister. Mark Brooks provides the cover for this issue, and Professor X must deal with the fallout of recent events alone. Is it possibly in part due to his decision to give Beast free reign since the beginning of Krakoa?
Meanwhile on the sister nation Arakko, Sins of Sinister and the Hellfire Gala weakens the Brotherhood of Mutants led by Storm, allowing for Genesis, wife of Apocalypse, to strike. X-Men Red #14, which releases August 16, brings Yildiray Çinar in as the new series artist, joining continuing writer Al Ewing. The issue, with a cover from Stefano Caselli, hints at Apocalypse’s return from Amenth after leaving in X of Swords, promising a crucible for Mars and its mutant population.
With this new information, it’s clear that both titles remain a core focus of the current X-line
