The Liquor Cabinet: A Graphic Novel

A comic book history of the world’s 5 most popular liquors

Current Funding: $1,658
Funding Goal: $1,200
Days Left: 14
Link: The Liquor Cabinet: A Graphic Novel

In 2014, Tom was pestered into making a comic about gin by a friend who insisted its history was fascinating. Tom just wanted to shut him up–instead, he discovered that his friend was right, it was fascinating, and that short comic kicked off a longer series, published between 2014 and 2019, diving into the history of each of the world’s most popular varieties of liquor.

Now, those comics are being collected for the first time in an updated paperback volume.

Wars. Political machinations. The triangular slave trade. A pickled corpse. Prohibition. Love. The history of liquor touches on all of these and more, providing stories, stats, and recipes in an entertaining, digestible comic book format.

What’s new in this edition?
We’re glad you asked! The Liquor Cabinet collects all of the fan-favorite mini comics in one sleek volume. Tom is in the process of redrawing the art from Madame Geneva, the chapter on Gin, to better match the comics that followed that first issue, as well as updating a handful of images from Nelson’s Blood, the chapter on Rum. The whole book has received additional editing passes to clarify language, fix typos, and apply a fresh coat of (non-literal) paint. The final book will have all the charm, humor, and history of the original hand-stapled mini-comics, with a little extra polish.

Skelly and Ghost!

Dead friends are friends forever!

Aw Yeah Comics and Blindwolf Studios presents a new graphic novel!
First thing’s first! There is NO AI used, at all, in this comic. We came to this disclaimer as we were creating the book. When the first artwork was produced with the photographic backgrounds, one of us mentioned that it could look, or be construed to be AI-looking. So we decided to make sure we mentioned that there is no ai here. All art is HUMAN-DRAWN, and backgrounds are ACTUAL PHOTOS taken by humans (that’s us!) and incorporated into the art by Eisner Award-winning comics creator, Franco! The idea at the very beginning of this book was to be able to meld real artwork with photographic artwork. So Franco drew the art, and Alex, Nic, and Franco all took photographs. Franco then incorporated the art into the photos to make a single image in each panel. This was something we’ve wanted to experiment with for a while, and we thought what better way to do it than on a forum like Kickstarter!

Now that that’s out of the way, who are Skelly and Ghost?!

They’re best pals, and they’re on a mission to find something very important. Something they lost a long time ago. Only, they can’t quite remember just what it is they’re looking for. Oh, and they’re not…exactly…alive.

But!

Their adventures are whimsical, thought-provoking, and dare we say, heartwarming. We hope you’ll join them on their search! You’ll meet new friends along the way, like our favorite dumpster-book-reading raccoon (whose name is Zeke); and you’ll reflect on things like the true meaning of Halloween and our place in the cosmos. No, really!

The book is already completed, and files are ready to be sent to the printer.
