Marvel has revealed another variant cover for the upcoming relaunch of Ultimate Spider-Man, as the spotlight on the romance of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson continues. The series, which will be written by Ultimate Universe architect Jonathan Hickman and superstar artist Marco Checchetto, deals with a Peter Parker getting spider powers as an adult and already married to MJ. To tap into the premise, artist J. Scott Campbell illustrates a variant playing up the established romance.
In the press release, writer Jonathan Hickman discusses the new (old) approach to the series, stating:
“When we decided that we were going to do a book about an older Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man, we really wanted to lean into him starting his super hero life from a very different place than what’s traditionally expected. Peter and MJ being married is one of many decisions we made that underline this being quite a ‘different’ kind of Spider-Man story.”
