Upcoming DC Collected Editions – Spring 2024

It’s that time of the year!

The time of the year when the Edelweiss Random House catalog for DC Comics hits the web and we can see how our wallets will suffer next year! And man, DC certainly is looking for us to break the bank with all these top tier releases on the way.

Here in this article you’ll find some highlights and descriptions of upcoming releases that range from February 2024 to July 2024. These catalogs will most likely expand over time, but that’s no reason not to get excited now!

Before going forward, remember, all collected editions discussed below can be ordered through your local comic shop. Some omnibi even have special covers you can ONLY GET THROUGH COMIC SHOPS.

So, without further ado…Let’s get into it! Let’s take a look at some of the new books hitting our shelves next year!

The Highlights

Off the bat, on February 6th, 2024, we’ll be seeing Book 1 of Creature Commandos Present: Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. hit shelves. This series by Lemire hasn’t been collected since it was first in stores back in 2012 during the New 52 Era. While the copy for the book does not contain what is in this collection, it does make sure to mention that is part of what is inspiring Phase 1 of James Gunn’s DCU. So with that knowledge, it can be assumed we’ll be getting a growing number of series collected that have to do with the upcoming movies and shows. This book is going to cost you $24.99.

Continuing on with books that are inspiring upcoming films, Batman and Robin by Tomasi & Gleason Vol. 1 hits your local stores on February 13th, 2024. Netflix and chill for Valentine’s day? No, it’s comics and thrills time. If you want to get started on this fan favorite run and missed out on the omnibus earlier this year, vol. 1 will cost you $39.99. Sadly, another book with no contents listed.

Now, this next one is fouryears in the making! Justice League International Omnibus vol. 3! If you read my article about the Marvel collected editions, you’ll know I didn’t highlight follow up volumes, but this one’s personal. I’ve waited FOUR YEARS! This volume will be out on February 20th, 2024 and is going to cost me–I mean you, $150 usd. That’s $25 more than the previous volume, which collected around 50 issues. With DC not listing the contents of any of these books, we can assume this will collect another 50 issues or more based on the price as well as a page count of 1,312.

For us ’90s & 2000s kids, we’ve got a major book to look out for. Batman Beyond: The Animated Series Classic Compendium – 25th Anniversary Edition. At 720 pages, it’s safe to say this is going to collect at least the initial 6 issue mini-series plus the 24 issue run that followed. This collection of a classic is gonna land a somewhat soft blow to your wallet at $59.99. That will be sneaking into stores March 5th, 2024.

Here comes yet another omnibus this writer has been wanting and pleading for. Green Lanter/Green Arrow: Hard Travelin’ Heroes Omnibus. No contents listed on this one is no problem. Based on the previous collections, it’s safe to say this omnibus should at least include Green Lantern/Green Arrow #76-87 & 90-106, and Flash #217-219 & 226. That would be all the contents of the previously two collected hardcovers. But at 1152 pages and a cost of $125 usd, there will most likely be more than that on your shelf come March 19th, 2024.

If we’re talking space with Green Lantern, then we have got to mention the main man. Lobo Big Fraggin Compendium Book One is crashing down on April 2nd, 2024. At a whopping 1,320 pages, that softcover binding is gonna be holding on for dear life more than one of Lobo’s bounties. But for $69.99 usd, you can’t beat it. Especially when many Lobo stories haven’t been collected into trades since the 90s.

Speeding into stores on April 16th, 2024, we have The Flash by William Messner Loebs and Greg LaRocque Omnibus vol. 1. A way too underappreciated era of The Scarlet Speedster is finally getting the hardcover treatment. If you’ve got your Flash by Waid omnis, then these upcoming volumes of Loebs and LaRocque Flash are a must buy. We comic book fans have to complete the run, and with this getting two volumes more than likely, it should be easy enough to fill out your shelf. This omnibus will speed away with $125 usd.

I would be a poor sport if I didn’t mention Hitman by Garth Ennis and John McCrea Omnibus Vol. 1. Both our current and previous EiCs are big fans of this one. It’s got guns and…uh, I don’t know enough about Hitman to tell you what it’s about. This one’s just for the team leaders over here at Comic Watch. This book blasts into your home on May 21st, 2024 for $125 usd. [“ZOMBIE NIGHT AT THE GOTHAM AQUARIUM” WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. – ed.]

Next up we have Secret Six by Gail Simone Omnibus Vol. 1. This is a fan favorite run that I’m not sure has ever been collected. While the New 52 series had collected volumes, all prior runs did not. So this one is sure to be flying off the shelves on June 11th, 2024. Though with 848 pages at a $125 usd price point, that flying may be a little harder on the wings and a bit more painful on the bank. [The best thing Gail’s ever written. And yes, we love her Birds of Prey, too. – ed.]

To round out our highlights, we’ve got one everyone’s clamoring for. Your brother, sister and mother want to read this one. It’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow The Deluxe Edition! I know this is one I’m excited to pick up. With it being the inspiration for live action Supergirl going forward, it’s sure to be on everyone’s pull list when it drops in stores on July 23rd, 2024 for $49.99 usd.

There are of course TONS of other books I did not highlight, but that are still worth looking at. While DC may be releasing 100 less books than Marvel is, their choices for omnis, compendiums and reprints are certainly not slacking. Speaking of reprints though, let’s take a look at what’s returning to shelves next year.
