As reported by Variety on 1/7/19, Sony announced that Kelly Marcel will be returning to the Venom movie franchise to write the script for the sequel. Notwithstanding mixed reviews, Venom has made $855 million worldwide.
Marcel co-produced and co-wrote the screenplay for the first Venom movie, but will be taking the reins from Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg as the lead scriptwriter for the sequel. She is best known for co-writing Saving Mr. Banks, writing Fifty Shades of Grey and creating/producing Terra Nova for television.
It was also confirmed that Woody Harrelson will be reprising his role as Cletus Kasady, the maniac beneath Marvel’s symbiotic villain, Carnage.
Though his casting as Kasady was greeted with mixed sentiment, Harrelson’s acting chops cannot be denied going into this much-anticipated sequel.
