FIRST WATCH: Weapon X Ends; a New X-Force is on the Horizon

Logan steps aside to give the reigns to… Sabretooth?! Yup, that’s right.

Marvel announced that Weapon X currently under the creative helm of Greg Pak and Fred Lan Lente with art by Yildray Cinar will end the 22 issue run in order to pave the way for the debut of all new team with a familiar name.

The conclusion of Weapon X according to Marvel will pave the way for the start of Weapon X-Force. This newest incarnation of the X franchise under the leadership of Sabretooth assembles a cast willing to do what no other X-Men team will pledging to save the mutant race. No further details have been released regarding whether or not Pak, Lente, and Cinar will remain on the title or if a new creative team will be introduced.

In terms of overall sales, Comichron reports that Weapon X peaked at #82 in January 2018 and declined steadily to #100 in April making it the lowest selling ongoing team title from the X-Men franchise.

Critical reception of Weapon X has also been lukewarm at best. Comicbookroundup, a website that assimilates the critical review of numerous websites and provides an aggregate score rates the series first 18 issues at an average 6.6 out of 10.

Marvel’s August solicitation reads:

WEAPON X #22
