***SPOILER ALERT: AVENGERS: ENDGAME SPOILERS AHEAD***
Avengers: Endgame is now the biggest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but what comes next? That’s easy: the friendly neighborhood web slinger is up next on the big screen. Spider-Man: Far From Home is coming soon, and it looks to be a great place to restart the series. Between some new villains, a continuation of the Endgame plot, and a journey into the future, how is Spider-Man: Far From Home looking a few months out from opening day in theaters? Be warned: spoilers to Avengers: Endgame are below, in case you have not had the chance to get to the movie theater.
What We Know about Spider-Man: Far From Home
Coming soon, we will get the first look at the world after the events of Avengers: Endgame. In fact, the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home shows a lot of what that looks like. With Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, dead from the snap that stopped Thanos, the world is a different place. It’s also worth noting that Captain America has aged and lived a full life with Agent Carter, meaning that the two leaders of the Avengers are gone. So, who moves into the leadership role moving forward? We do not see it much in the trailer, but it could very well be Spider-Man.
Multiverse Theory Confirmed in Spider-Man Far From Home
What we do see in the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home is the confirmation of a multiverse. When the Avengers used quantum travel to get the stones back from Thanos, multiple universes were created and opened. That means a few things. For one, Loki is off in one dimension doing his own thing. That’s likely where we will see the Loki TV series for Disney Plus, the soon to be streaming service. Also, we know that a few heroes that don’t exist in the main Avengers universe might be joining the heroes soon.
Multiverse Entrance of New Heroes from X-Men or Fantastic Four
It is likely that a new batch of heroes will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For starters, Disney recently acquired 20th Century Fox, and that means something big. The Fantastic Four and X-Men rights were held by Fox, who are now under Disney and Marvel’s umbrella. Could fans see the entrance of these two historic comic book groups? It is likely at some point, but an X-Men movie focused on Dark Phoenix is coming this year, so it would be a good time to announce some sort of collaboration. Even a slight mention would send fans through the roof with joy.
Main Villains in Spider-Man: Far From Home
There’s no telling where the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading, but we do know what is in store for Spider-Man. Peter Parker is shown in the trailer talking to Mysterio, a famous comic book villain.
Mysterio
Oddly enough, Mysterio in the trailers seems quite friendly. That means that the Mysterio in the Avengers universe is likely a good guy, although his multiverse versions may not be. Jake Gyllenhaal is playing Mysterio, so that should be a great performance. If the villain version of Mysterio really is from another universe, that could mean we could see a few different versions of the character in the film. Mysterio is a master of tricks and illusions thanks to a background in acting and Hollywood. So who knows, the Avengers universe Mysterio may just be faking it. He’ll likely be the main villain in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but a few others are probably going to show up too.
Hydro-Man
It looks like another main villain in the film will be Hydro-Man. When Morris Bench, a US soldier on a cargo ship, is knocked into the sea by Spider-Man in the comics, his body becomes mixed with water molecules. He lives his life in the comic books looking for revenge on Spider-Man, and even teams up with Green Goblin and the Sinister Six. Could that be an introduction to Green Goblin for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It seems likely, especially as more and more villains are introduced to the series.
Is Spider-Man: Far From Home Coming Soon?
Spider-Man: Far From Home looks good and fans won’t have to wait much longer. The film is set to release on July 2nd, 2019. If fans want a taste of the Marvel world before that, X-Men: Dark Phoenix comes out the month before on June 7th.
