Why Marvel Knights Should Be The Future For Hulu And Marvel TV

Things aren’t looking too hot for the future of Marvel on Netflix. They just released one of the most critically acclaimed seasons ever in Daredevil, and yet, it barely garnered any fan excitement on social media. Netflix still has, The Punisher and Jessica Jones, to release, but the once bright future is now dimmer than the lights of a second-rate strip club.

Also, with Disney releasing their own streaming service with high profile Marvel Studios’ heroes such as Loki, Scarlet Witch, The Winter Soldier and Falcon makes one wonder how can The Defenders on Netflix even compete? As well as The DC Universe doing a remarkable job delivering mature superhero content with some very beloved protagonists. So, we know there’s an audience for this type of programming, but what’s next for Marvel TV?

Marvel Knights

One of the hottest writers at Marvel Comics, Donny Cates, is set to revisit the once popular Marvel Knights imprint for their twentieth anniversary. Seeing how well these comics do could be a great indicator in which direction Marvel TV may take after the buyout with Fox; which would then give them the majority stakes in Hulu. A perfect place to launch their own universe without having to worry about what wonderful things Marvel Studios are doing in the movies, and give them free rein to create a universe solely made for TV.

There are also rumors that Avengers 4 will take place in alternate realities (I’ve been saying this the whole time. It’s just a lot easier to do than time travel. Sorry, I had to say that!), which would give Marvel Knights their very own universe to shine! Also, if some characters are deemed popular enough, then they may still crossover with Marvel Studios.

But finally, we can get away from the whole “Everything’s connected,” rhetoric that we all know isn’t true. This is a huge opportunity, and if done right, could be very lucrative. This may just be a theory, but could the drop-off in viewers be due to being lied to about it all being connected? Fans of the movies watched to see one of their favorite characters from the movies drop by and say “Hi,”, but then it became abundantly clear that wasn’t going to happen.

Y’see, with Marvel Knights, the viewers know exactly what they’re going to get — beloved Marvel heroes, with mature themes — that has nothing to do with Marvel Studios. Let’s take a look at a few characters that could start this universe, and yes, Hulu should think about bringing Netflix’s heroes over. This may confuse people at first, but Charlie Cox, Jon Bernthal, Krysten Ritter, and Mike Colter gave us some amazing versions, and that might be hard to match.  Let’s look at a few characters who could start off this universe:

Moon Knight

Marc Spector is beloved by few. His Fists of Khonshu would be an instant hit depending on the creative vision behind the team. Personally, I have a ton of ideas, but I’m just a little ol’ lonely indie writer trying to make it into a comic industry, which seems large from the outside, but not so much once you start doing the research. Anyhoo, Moon Knight would be an excellent character to use to help set the tone for the universe. Plus, he’s never been done before. Make it weird, violent and out of this world, and you just might have a huge hit. If you want to learn more about Moon Knight, then check out Warren Ellis’ excellent run as he added a few interesting twists.

White Tiger

There’s been a few versions of the White Tiger. As you can see from the image from above, she receives her powers from an amulet. Why sugarcoat it: She’s a lot like the Black Panther. She’s also another character that has never been done in live-action, but if done right, the show has massive potential as she/he would be the first Latino-led show from Marvel. Now, that’s not a great reason why it should be made — a better one is that White Tiger’s powers would fit nicely into the world of TV, and she’d be a nice addition to the Marvel Knights.

This new universe could revitalize Marvel TV. Crossovers could be possible through the Quantum Realm, which would give viewers realistic expectations, but more importantly, it allows the writers to not be bogged down by 20-plus movies, countless TV shows’ continuity. A fresh start would really get the fan base hyped. If you’re interested in this, then let Marvel know on Twitter and make sure to by Don Cates’ Marvel Knights to show your support. Fans matter. And it’s important for the executives from Disney know there’s a huge demand for a universe where anything can happen.
