When the Bella Twins were in wrestling, I wasn’t watching wrestling at the time. I hated that “divas” were a thing. I always loved women who could wrestle. Looking back all of my favorite wrestlers as a kid were women wrestlers, Madusa, Lita, Chyna, Luna Vachon, and so on.
I knew of the twins, but also had an annoyance when I heard about them due to the fact I disliked the Diva search and everything that it stood for. Especially when they had such great talents like Ivory, Jacqueline, Trish Stratus.
I got back into wrestling about a year ago, the Twins were already retired. However, I recently binge-watched Total Divas (Hit TV series on E followed up by the twins’ spin-off series Total Bellas). I got to know the twins and really enjoyed who they were. If nothing else I found them entertaining to watch, since COVID-19 hit I spent my off-time watching the show. In many ways, it helped me not feel trapped it gave me an escape.
I am not sure how I found out about the book, I think I was searching on youtube to find a match to watch of theirs (because to this day I have not seen a full match of theirs but will soon). I came across their book. Incomparable. I ordered it on Amazon on Thursday, got here on Friday, and finished it on Sunday, now writing about it on Monday.
Although this commentary is not really about me, it’s hard to talk about the book without including my own story. My expectation of the book was it will be a fun read, good behind the scenes story. Never did I think I would find that I have so much in common with the Bellas. I was born in Arizona, My dad was Mexican, and my mom was white, my dad was abusive, my mom had her own struggles. Nikki talked about being sexual abuse I too was sexually abused, Brie lost her high school sweet hear that was her rock, I too lost someone who was my rock at a young age (not a boyfriend but a brother). They wanted to leave Arizona as fast as they could, so did I. At this point, I am basically a Bella.
The reason I mention everything above, a person can think they have nothing in common with someone because they live such a different life than you, but when you take a closer look, it can surprise you.
This book is good, it gives you an inside look that you don’t see on tv. They talk very openly about who they are. It was empowering to read. They did not become victims, they took their pain and made sure they did better. There were some stories about wrestling but it was not the focus point of the book. I do believe there will be more books in the future. This book was based on empowerment. If you are part of the Bella Army (Bella Fans) this is a MUST read. If you are a wrestling fan you may be let down a bit by the lack of wrestling stories but you get a lot of good stories when they were in FCW, and when they were brought up to the main roster. If you aren’t a fan of wrestling, you will also enjoy this book. It’s all about empowerment. Also, they talk about wine which I really enjoy too.
Needless to say, no matter what type of reader you are, I strongly recommend this book I feel it has something for every one. They speak about empowering women, I don’t believe it can just empower women, even as a gay male, I found something in their stories to motivate me and better my life.
