Review
I Am Groot is a series of five short animated episodes featuring Baby Groot after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy. The episodes show Groot’s first steps, finding tiny new friends, a dance off with a shapeshifting alien, unexpected foliage growth after a bath, and an art project to show his love for the other Guardians. Each episode has a comic tint usually ending with a twist. Vin Diesel returns to voice the monosyllabic sentient tree and Bradly Cooper reprises his role of Rocket Raccoon. Trevor Devall lends his vocal talents to Iwua, the pretentious dancing shapeshifting alien. Each episode is only about five minutes in length, so binge watching only takes about half an hour and is streaming on Disney+.
The animation value is high using a photorealistic style created by Luma Pictures who previously worked on Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The stories are cute with tongue in cheek plots that fit right into the Guardians vibe and are able to tell five completely different stories in a very short amount of time.
To be honest, I loved Groot in the first movie. He was actually one of my favorite parts of the film, but I have grown weary of Baby Groot and Adolescent Groot and really hope Vol 3 brings us a more adult version again. That being said, these were cute, entertaining and fun to watch. I recommend giving them a try!
Final Thoughts
Groot is an endearing loveable character and Baby Groot is no exception. This series is all about comedy, it still shows Groot's loveable character.
