Review

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is being pulled through time within the TVA (Time Variance Authority) which should not be possible.  He finally makes it back to Mobius (Owen Wilson) and B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) who have stopped the pruning of the variant timelines which is causing a dangerous situation within the TVA and the “Sacred Timeline”.  To try to stop Loki from “Time Slipping” Mobius takes him to Ouroboros a.k.a.  OB (Key Huy Quan), who explains the only way to stop it is a very precarious mission that could kill both Mobius and Loki.  In the meantime, the new TVA rulers set out to find and destroy Sylvie who they blame for their current plight. Can Loki and Mobius complete their task and stop Loki from Time Slipping or will they both perish? Watch and find out!

The production value on this show was good and the special effects were interesting with the “Time Slipping” happening multiple times throughout the episode.  The effect conveys the appropriate feeling that what Loki is going through is painful and not a good thing.  The music I found especially good at conveying the proper tone for each scene. Natalie Holt returns as the composer for the season.  The storyline continues pretty much right where season one leaves off.

Just a quick warning, if you haven’t watched season one, you really need to in order to understand anything that is really happening.  In fact, even if you have seen season one, it isn’t easy to understand what was going on.  Many shows coming back after a longish hiatus, will often ease back into the season with a gentler episode that refreshes your memory on who the characters are and their relationships to each other, using the expositional material as reminders of what transpired in the season before.  But not this show, they start right away with Loki’s moving through the time stream getting bits and pieces of what is happening to the TVA.  He is confused and disoriented and so am I.  Not to boast, but I am usually pretty good at following complex plots that jump time periods, but I was just as confused and disoriented as Loki was, which makes me believe that this was intentional, having the audience empathize with the character’s fractured thoughts.  To be quite honest, I am not sure what to think of the new season yet, but it wasn’t boring, and I am excited to see where it heads.

Final Thoughts

I found this episode intriguing but ultimately confusing, not in a bad way, but in a more of "what the heck is going on" way.
