Review
“The Nexus Event” opens in Asgard with a very young Sylvie/Loki playing with her toys. Then, TVA Agents arrive, grab the girl and reset (erase) the timeline.
When the raven haired Sylvie is brought before the TVA judge, she manages to swipe a Tempad and escape the TVA. She will be on the run one step ahead of the TVA for many years to come. Back in the “present” Ravonna finds herself standing before the Time Keepers who are wanting to know how she allowed Loki and Sylvie to escape.
As Lamentis faces its final moments, Loki and Sylvie are faced with no way out but still Loki stands defiant of death. At the last minute, two portals appear which Loki and Sylvie step through and are returned to the Time Variance Authority. The two are separated and Loki tries to warn Mobius that the TVA is lying to him. Mobius laughs it off, he’s had enough of Loki’s games.
Mobius sends Loki through a portal where Loki finds himself back in Asgard….in a time loop! Sif keeps coming at him over and over and hitting him because Loki had cut a chunk of her hair off. Mobius finally brings Loki back and wants to know the cause of the Lamentis Nexus Event. Mobius tells Loki that Sylvie has been pruned. He also believes Loki, in the grandest form of narcissism, has fallen in love with himself (Sylvie). Loki get Mobius to admit that Sylvie is still alive…for now. Loki tries to convince Mobius of the truth…that he and everyone working at the TVA are themselves Variants.
The Time Keepers want to personally oversee the pruning of the 2 Lokis. Ravonna brings Loki and Sylvie before the trio of Time Keepers. Ah, but everything is not what it seems…
This episode has an after credits scene I won’t spoil.
So here’s what’s going through my mind as a fan of the show: Ravonna. Anyone who has read The Avengers comics in which Kang The Conqueror has appeared know that Kang’s wife’s name is Ravonna. So it begs the question: Is Kang the one behind the Time Keepers and the TVA? While that may be the most logical assumption, remember, we’re dealing with the MCU here. The MCU has already utterly destroyed a character that appeared in one of the Avengers’ Kang stories: Mantis. So it is also completely within reason to think that this Ravonna has nothing whatsoever to do with Kang. Going further it is also very likely Kang has nothing at all to do with the TVA. Just because we see something in the comics doesn’t mean it will be the same in the MCU (see the recent Agatha Harkness that has no relationship to the character we know from the comics). Kang The Conqueror is a huge villain in the comics, one they may want to save for use in a feature length movie not a TV series. It’s too early to tell to what degree what happens in the TV shows will affect the MCU films. We only really know for sure that The Scarlet Witch is set to appear in next year’s Dr, Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness.
It may actually happen that they’ll pull a switcheroo and give us Immortus who is an earlier incarnation of Kang (with Rama Tut, an FF villain, an even earlier version). Plus, with only 2 episodes left, would they even bother to bring in such a villain as Kang? I know a lot of fans get caught up in trying to guess what is coming next on these shows….anyone remember the big Mephisto deal on WandaVision? So, for my own part, I don’t get caught up too much in second guessing. I personally think Kang should be involved to some degree in all of this but the logic part of me isn’t going to make any bets he’ll be involved.
Final Thoughts
I really wish they would stop using Loki as a punching bag for everyone. He is a GOD! He may not be able to use magic in the TVA but he can outside it and aside from levitating an electronic device in Roxxcart he isn't using his magic in places he can. Nor his illusions either. Don't forget, Loki has traded blows with his brother, Thor! What gives?
