Tess returned from the dead. The team scrambled to get the Zephyr air born. Quake, Destroyer of Worlds, and the Freaky Blue Bitch Sinara battled to the death. Kasius revealed he had a Seer of his own.
What You’ll Find Out:
(SPOILERS AHEAD!) Zephyr One touches down on the landing pad at the Lighthouse. The Agents work their way inside while Enoch hides away on the Zephyr as Kree board the craft and find no “life forms”.
Kasius mourns over the dead body of Sinara. He orders a Kree scientist to “fix” her. But the scientist can’t. Human biology is easier to manipulate and restore to life. Sinara is Kree and her wounds are too extensive. She is dead. 100% dead. Dead as disco dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. So, Kasius shoots the scientist dead. He continues conversing and caressing Sinara.
A Kree soldier brings him all they were able to find on the Zephyr: Robin’s drawings. Kasius wants Tye, the Inhuman trainer, to gather a force of Inhumans, who are barely trained, to take down S.H.I.E.L.D. Kasius says his family has a tradition: when all is lost, they drink the Odium. It burns through the body, all strength, no pain. He forces Tye to consume the Odium.
Mack, axe-rifle in hand, guides Flint through the Lighthouse. He tells the boy he’d like it on Earth. And if he wants to come back with them Flint would always have a place with himself and Elena. Flint tells Mack he doesn’t know how to build a time machine just as Fitz and Simmons step out of the shadows. “It’s a portal, not a time machine”, says Fitz. “And you’ll build it with this” adds Jemma, holding up the Monolith shard.
The Kree are leading a group of Inhumans when the Agents and Deke ambush them. A berserk Tye joins the fray. Coulson shoots him point blank several times but Tye keeps coming. He engages Quake, Destroyer of Worlds, who ultimately kills him. “Turns out they have PCP in space” she jokes to Coulson.
Deke reunites with Tess and learns she is alive. Coulson tells Tess he’s been where she is, “Something like this changes you”. Tess sets off to fly the Inhumans to the upper levels.
Kasius continues his creepy, one way conversation with the Dead Freaky Blue Bitch. He smudges her eye make-up. He rambles about wanting to make his father proud and elevate the Kasius family name. (This is the first time we learn that “Kasius” is may be a surname and not his individual name). Kasius reaches for the vial of Odium. He says his Seer’s knowledge is dried up–how he knows this is apparently not relevant.
Yo-Yo, going solo, comes across the room of Kasius’ Seer and enters. The identity of this Seer is revealed to be…Elena herself! Yo-Yo is shocked to be standing in front of an older, worn version of herself. Seer Yo-Yo tells her younger self that the Kree have been killing her and reviving her for years. She says it’s all a “time loop”.
Enoch, who is guarding the Machine, estimates the Kree will break in in 12 minutes. Deke, with all the contemporary (2018) early 21st century dialogue he can muster, volunteers to protect Enoch and the Machine. Jemma coaches Flint on “feeling” the Monolith shard down to a molecular level. Three of the Kree break in but fall prey to a trap set by Fitz which decapitates them and repulses Jemma that her fiance could come up with such a thing.
Seer Yo-Yo wants to help, wants to tell Yo-Yo something different than last time. The only conclusion one can come to about this and Fitz’s mention of a time loop last episode is that the Agents have been there before. But why does only Yo-Yo remember it? If you remove the people who were taken out of the diner that still leaves many others who would have lived through the loop just as Seer Yo-Yo but nobody else mentions it. And surely Enoch’s computer brain would have recorded some type of data on the incidents. Seer Yo-Yo says she felt helpless in not being able to change Coulson’s choices. Skye-Daisy doesn’t want to return home and become Quake, Destroyer of Worlds so Coulson shoots her. According to Seer Yo-Yo the team makes a choice that ruins everything. All of a sudden we’re told Coulson is dying. We are shown the usual go-to black veins on his chest. Elena wants to know if she is being told to go back and save the world or that she can’t save the world. An armless Seer Yo-Yo tells her younger self to go and try to find another path.
Flint floats in space wearing Deke’s space suit. The Kree break into the Zephyr. Coulson carries Daisy toward the ship. The Kree strike down Enoch. Flint floats. The Kree and Kasius visit Seer Yo-Yo. Flint sees computer graphics in his helmet as popularized by Tony Stark in Iron Man.
The Kree discuss plans to stop the humans as they watch in horror big chunks of rocks headed straight toward them, smashing through the Lighthouse window. The Kree die as they are sucked out into space and Flint enters through the hole. Enoch is prepared to die when he is saved by Deke. Everyone except Yo-Yo reunites in the Lighthouse and May meets Flint for the first time…or maybe it’s the 100th time if they are truly stuck in a loop.
Flint rebuilds the Monolith from the shard and the space rocks. Mack finds Kasius holding a knife to Seer Yo-Yo’s throat unaware this is a different Yo-Yo. Kasius drinks the vial of Odium and slits Yo-Yo’s throat.
Mack screams, Kasius does the blood from the eyes and mouth routine and goes berserk, lunging at Mack. Weaponless, Mack goes one on one with Kasius.
As Deke tries to repair a panel that opens the door, Enoch says he thinks the Zephy does not have the energy to power the Monolith portal. But Enoch does. His battery could create a thermal feedback capable of delivering more than enough power. But it will destroy Enoch in an exo-thermal reaction violent enough to destroy several levels of the Lighthouse. Deke says that’s not great for the guy standing next to him flipping the switch (huh? What switch?) Coulson communicates with Deke who hides the direness of the situation. Flint is offered one more chance to return to Earth and turns it down again.
The Mack/Kasius battle rages on with Mack taking a huge beating. Jemma pops in from behind and slips one of those ear thingies in Kasius ear. Mack takes the axe-rifle he used on the Vrellnexians and runs Kasius through. He also gets a wonderful surprise when Yo-Yo runs into his arms.
Enoch is about to expire and the gang makes an all out dash for the Monolith. The Zephyr explodes and the Monolith melts.
Epilogue: Flint and Tess in a trawler watch the carnage from space. They are certain their friends made it home. Now Flint just has to use Tess’s little Earth marble as a blueprint to rebuild Earth.
What This Means For The Future:
What comes next is anyone’s guess. Have we seen the last of Enoch? Will we ever find out who sent him to Earth 30,000 years ago? Where will the trip through the Monolith deposit the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? There will be four weeks to ponder these questions and others as Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. goes on hiatus for February sweeps.
Final Thought: Was everyone really caught in a time loop, reliving their journey to the future over and over again? With just two brief mentions it’s hard to tell. You would think that such an important plot element would get more exposition. And Coulsom…dying AGAIN? Haven’t they got anything else for Agent Phil Coulson to do? Are we going to get any more info on who sent Enoch to Earth? I am hoping that they wrap up this story line quickly and give us a new arc to finish out the season. The Ghost Rider story arc was a step in the right direction. Please bring in some more Marvel characters to work with. I have not been a huge fan of the Netflix Marvel shows but at this point I’m putting Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. near the bottom in ranking all the Marvel TV shows. And it could be at the top.

Real Name: Robbie Reyes

Robbie Reyes is the 5th person to take the mantle of Ghost Rider. Unlike his predecessors, Robbie is possessed by the spirit of Eli Morrow, a ghost who is bound to a 1969 Dodge Charger. As it turns out, Eli is a serial killer and estranged uncle of Robbie Reyes. Robbie eventually bonds permanently with Eli but will only kill people with evil souls to satiate Eli’s blood lust.

In the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. version, Robbie Reyes is gunned down by a street gang and as he dies he is approached by a stranger with a flaming skull (revealed to be Johnny Blaze) who saves Robbie’s life by making him a Ghost Rider. Originally in the comic, this new Ghost Rider had qualities similar to a car as far as the style of his flaming skull. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took that and blended it with the traditional look of Johnny Blaze. Quake and the Agents help Robbie against his uncle Eli and Robbie aids them with the Book of Sins known as the Darkhold.
