Review

Superman is off-world, conferring with the newly discovered Kryptonian city of Argo, giving Supergirl double super duties. It doesn’t phase her though, as she finds a balance between her super duties and her reporter life at Catco.

Across town, several aliens meet at the alien bar, discussing the introduction of image inducers; both the pros of being able to blend in with humans and the cons of casting aside who you are in the process. One alien against the image inducers is later attacked at his government lab. The attackers, Mercy, and Otis Graves, physically scar him to gain access to the military weapons he creates. Supergirl appears and tries to stop them, but they manage to get away.

After discovering that the Grave siblings used to work for Lex Luthor, she visits his mother Lillian in prison to find out if she knows anything about them. When she gets there, she’s surprised to see Lena is there. The tension between them is obvious, but the two remain civil as Supergirl asks her questions. Lillian explains that after the World Killer rampage, her outlook on life changed. She gives Supergirl all the info she needs.

At the DEO, Alex is having a hard time working with Brainiac 5. She remains frustrated with him, while he continues to be perplexed that people aren’t being appreciative of all his help. At the alien bar, J’onn is surprised at not a lot of people came to the next alien group meeting. The facilitator explains that they are afraid after the alien attack earlier. Just then a bomb goes off in the bar, but fortunately, no one is hurt. J’onn insists that Supergirl investigate the attacks as hate crimes. Supergirl says no, that aliens are in a good place in her eyes. J’onn disagrees and the two are left at a crossroad.

Brainiac 5 uses Lillian Luthor’s information to track down the Grave siblings. When Supergirl investigates, they are not there but she learns that they are facilitating a hate group against aliens that spreads into every corner of the city. She also learns that they plan to attack the President at Fort David due to her aid of aliens. Though Supergirl stops them from killing the President, she is too late to stop them from outing the President as an alien herself.

Lena Luthor uses her connections to stop the legal actions against James Olson for his vigilante actions as Guardian. This, of course, is done behind his back, causing future potential problems for the couple.

Final Thoughts

I honestly didn’t care for this episode. Although it was fun seeing Lynda Carter return as the President, it set up the entire season to lean towards becoming an X-Men series, with aliens replacing Mutants as social outcasts. We kinda already have that happening in the Fox series The Gifted. Color me disenchanted. More Argo, Superman and Mon-El for me, please. Hell, a good Stresky episode would even be better than what was featured for the opening season. Let’s just hope it gets better.
