The end is near for The Walking Dead. The show will conclude at the end of 2022–Season 11–which will air 24 episodes, Add to that the delayed Season 10 finale and mix in 6 Season 10 “Bonus” episodes (basically reruns with added commentary or content) set to air in early 2021 and you can set your countdown clock (like those highly popular ones AMC pastes at the lower bottom corner of your TV during TWD Marathons counting down to Season Premiers and Finales) to 31.
More Dead News! The Walking Dead‘s second spin off series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, will debut along with the Season 10 finale on October 4th. On October 11 Fear The Walking Dead has its Season Premier.
But wait! There’s more!!! Just announced are another 2 spin offs, one of which will star fan favorites Daryl and Carol. This one is set to debut in 2023. According to some fans who heard the news, “Well that takes the thrill out of that…now we know they won’t be dying anytime soon.” Really? Is that what makes a TV show good? People dying? I guess the fact that almost everyone who ever appears on TWD dies a gruesome death isn’t enough. The fourth spin off is called Tales Of The Walking Dead will be an anthology series and it’s been hinted that some of the aforementioned dead people could return in stories set before they died. So we might see the return of such characters as–oh, oh, noooo. I don’t have the time or space to make a TWD Obituary Column here! The one real question in all of this…what happened to those Walking Dead films that were supposed to come out featuring Rick Grimes? It’s been awhile since he was whisked away by those helicopters. I can’t help but wonder if all these spin offs are a good thing. The last time we had anything like this was back in the seventies when we had All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Maude, and Good Times. Time will tell.
Star Trekkin’ Across The Universe! Boldly Going Forward ’cause We Can’t Find Reverse! In the midst a lot of problems stemming from Covid-19 and lack of a pilot season, some networks are hurting for fall programming. So the people at CBS are pulling another one of their CBS All-Access series and airing it on broadcast CBS: the first season of Star Trek Discovery, which was originally sold to viewers on CBS All-Access, is coming September 24, 2020 at 10pm. The third season of Star Trek Discovery will premier on the pay service on October 15th. Sister network The CW is already airing the 2 seasons of Tell Me A Story will add Swamp Thing, a series DCEU thought was so bad they axed it within 5 days of airing its first episode. Of course, those who have seen Swamp Thing overwhelmingly felt it was actually the best that DCEU has done so far and are hoping airing the show on The CW will earn it a new lease on life if The CW will pick it up for another season.
Pandora will begin Season 2 on The CW on October 4th. The series follows an orphaned young woman who enrolls in Earth’s Space Training Academy and is said to be going for a more Star Trek vibe is Season 2.
The Mandalorian Season 2 comes October 30.
The Brides (CBS) is Greg Berlanti’s take on Dracula as a vampire soap opera. As a huge Dark Shadows fan I am looking forward to this one the most. I’m also happy to say the Dark Shadows Reincarnation CW pilot for this season was passed on. Having seen Tim Burton’s travesty of a film starring Johnny Depp as Barnabas, and the last Dark Shadows reboot pilot (on You Tube) I just don’t think anyone really understands what made Dark Shadows great. So Vampire Soap-Yes, Dark Shadows reboot-sadly, no.
Debris managed to turn in a nearly complete pilot before the shut down and thus earned a spot on the fall schedule. It sounds…interesting enough. wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft has mysterious effects on mankind.
Clarice, a series based on Clarice Starling set one year after The Silence Of The Lambs, is being eyed for mid-season. Please, just bring back Hannibal, one of the greatest TV series ever in my opinion. Mads Mikkelsen took the cannibal in new directions and makes you almost forget Anthony Hopkins.
Langdon, Tom Hanks character in The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons and Inferno gets a series based on Dan Brown’s 4th book, The Lost Symbol. Sometime in 2020-2021.
Echo has had more scripts ordered. It would be a crime procedural in which the heroes are sent back in time in the bodies of murder victims. Kinda sounds like Stitchers meets Timeless.
The remake of Stephen King’s now eerily relevant mini-series from the nineties has a date: December 17 on CBS All-Access. The all star cast includes Whoopie Goldberg as Mother Abagail, the part played in the original by legendary actress Ruby Dee.
