Where’s My Show?

Awhile back The CW announced that with the Coronavirus Pandemic shutting down Hollywood and most of the film making industry it would move the start of the 2020-2021 season to 2021. Recently they also announced a second season of Stargirl and that it would become a CW series going forward. A lot of speculation of how Stargirl fits into the Arrowverse has been buzzing around. One source says that Stargirl is set on the new Earth-2 in the Multiverse. While there are no immediate plans for any cross-over events it’s just a matter of time till Courtney meets some of the other heroes on Earth Prime.

Even as I write The Umbrella Academy has returned, a surprise hit from last year. New season began on July 31.

The Walking Dead Season 10 Finale the last new episode of Season 10, episode 1015, aired on April 5, 2020. Current circumstances prevented the completion of the Season Finale. Now we have a date when the finale will air and it’s October 4th at 9pm on AMC. No word as of yet when of when Season 11 will premier but it  looks like we will be seeing the return of Maggie since Lauren Cohen’s foray into Network Prime Time, Whiskey Cavalier, was cancelled by ABC.

The Freeform series Siren has been the freshest, most unique science fiction fantasy series in a long time. It also featured the first sci-fi polyamorous relationship. After a highly rated and well received first season, Freeform doubled the episode order for Season 2. Ratings slipped some and the Season 3 order was cut back to 10 but even without the high ratings the first season saw the show remained Freeform’s highest rated original series. No word has come out whether the show is cancelled or has been renewed for a fourth season as of this writing. However, with the lack of new pilots all of the networks are having to deal with added to the highly devoted fan base Siren has, don’t count the Bristol Cove mermaids out yet. Season 3 wrapped up with a seemingly conclusion to the story of Ryn, Ben and Maddie. But hopefully their story isn’t over and we will see them all again next year.

Star Trek Discovery Season 3 has a premier date finally. The show will return to CBS All-Access on October 15 with 13 episodes airing weekly on Thursdays. Star Trek Picard has been given a second season as well but the often mentioned Section 31 series which has been bandied about for the last 2 years still has no order. Star Trek is not having an easy time with both Netflix and Amazon Prime passing on any further funding for any of the series including Picard which could very well never materialize. And our next show up is definitely not a step in the right direction in my opinion.

Star Trek: Lower Decks After Star Trek The Original Series aired it was followed up by Star Trek The Animated Series. The animated show received some high accolades and featured some of the writers from the original show. Now, I can’t take credit for saying this as so many others before me have said it so I’ll just have to reiterate what they’ve said: This totally looks like Rick and Morty Meets Star Trek. During Star Trek’s 54 year history it has mostly been revered as a thought provoking show. That’s not to say it isn’t without humor. I love the humor in Star Trek IV The Voyage Home. And we have the banter between Bones and Spock which was always fun. And Data’s often funny road to becoming a real boy. Even Worf  in all his Klingon seriousness inadvertently gave us chuckles with lines like “I am NOT a Merry Man!” And the enigmatic Q found the whole human race to be a joke. But since 2009 when Jar Jar Abrams decided to reinvent Star Trek in his own image the franchise has been in serious trouble. Now, with all of Trek TV under the helm of Admiral Alex Kurtzman, Trek Fandom has become even more divided. For the record, I like Star Trek Discovery. I was apprehensive in the beginning but Season 2 worked out the rough spots mostly…like how there are 24 Houses of the Klingon race and we hadn’t seen them all. My biggest gripe is there shouldn’t be “F Bombs” in Star Trek. That was explained away in Star Trek IV The Voyage Home. Anyway, I have seen scenes from Lower Decks and I just don’t find it funny. I do think there are a lot of people who didn’t grow up with Star Trek from the beginning that may like it but I just don’t see the need for this. I will watch the first episode when the series premiers on August 6 and give a full report.

No news on when you can expect Season 2 but I thought this tid-bit was worthy: They are doing a prequel series, 6 episodes, called The Witcher: Blood Origin. You can expect to see that….wait, what am I? A psychic?  Be lucky I have the dates I have and not doing articles like “Lost In Space 3, Story, When It Comes Out” and then you go to read it and it says “We don’t have a release date yet”. Yes, I’ve read several of those. But Where’s My Show? will let you know when we know.

The Boys are back in town on September 4 with the first 3 episodes dropping then the series will put out 1 episode a week till October 9. And this all means…I have little more than a month to finish season 1.

And finally there’s…this. Helstrom. Pictured are Ana and Daimon Helstrom (don’t ask me where the other L went) the children of a serial killer. In the beginning I couldn’t wait for them to announce the next Marvel comic coming to the movies. Then Guardians of the Galaxy 2 came out and decided to do Mantis. What I saw bore absolutely ZERO resemblance to Mantis. And at the end I saw the hints of one of my all time faves, Adam Warlock, being set up. I cringed. We got Cloak and Dagger who had a really great origin that was sent to the shredder and we got a repulsive version of Dagger and Cloak was suddenly talkative. To get to the point, I started to dread hearing who the next hero coming out was. The Son of Satan, Daimon Hellstrom (2 Ls), was also a big favorite. Everything I’ve read about the show and what I heard during a virtual con panel last week has me thinking we are just going to get another “Leech Show” where they take the character and remove everything the writers at Marvel put into him over the years and just go off on there own tangent. Often times I think I might like something, someone like Mantis if they named her “Cricket” instead because then I would have no expectations. Maybe I’m wrong and I’ll gladly say so after I see the first episode which will be on October 15. Maybe it will turn out that serial-killing-dad is really Satan! It sure as hell better be.

Yeah, somehow I think The Boys are speaking for most of these shows. Or maybe it’s personal.
