First Watch: BREAKING! Banner Hulk is Back in New May Avengers Covers

Comics giant Marvel has revealed the return of another classic hero this spring, The Strongest One There Is! That’s right, new comic covers revealed in a Marvel Press release show the return of Bruce Banner, THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

True Believers know that Bruce Banner was killed via an arrow to the brain from Hawkeye in the third issue of Civil War II back in 2016, despite a minor return in Secret Empire (well, kinda) and a Generations issue besides the Totally Awesome Hulk (his faux-hawk sporting replacement) this appears to signal the return of the Green Goliath to mainline Marvel canon. As an added bonus the arc appears to be written by comics megastar Mark Waid, best known for the Alex Ross illustrated magnum opus Kingdom Come (1996) and The Indestructible Hulk (2013), Waid is joined by Al Ewing (New Avengers) and Jim Zub (Avengers K) and featuring covers by Mark Brooks and interiors by Paco Medina

A linked variant cover for February was also released.

So far only a basic overview has been provided by Marvel as to the content of the arc:

“Month three of AVENGERS: NO SURRENDER takes its epic storytelling to another level, as Jarvis’ life hangs by a thread and the Black Order is on the attack. And as if the Avengers don’t have enough to worry about, they’ll need to deal with a betrayal of one of their own.”

Marvel also stated the arc, titled No Surrender, will unite the cast and creative teams of Avengers, Uncanny Avengers and U.S.Avengers into one overarching weekly epic story.

Red Hulk in the Iron Patriot Armor?! Where’s Toni Ho?

The second cover in the press release shows Red Hulk in the Iron Patriot armor, originally piloted by Norman Osborn during the Dark Reign, but currently, in use by Dr. Toni Ho of the U.S.Avengers, a team of patriotic superheroes also including Red Hulk and an alternate future Captain America.

What is the pyramid?

The third cover shows Rogue of the X-Men/ Uncanny Avengers trying to hold Hulk back from grabbing a glowing black pyramid. No information was given as to the nature of this pyramid.

He just saw Tony’s tax return

The final cover shows Beast of the X-Men/ Avengers recoiling in shock in front of a bank of monitors, displayed on the monitors are several lineups of the Avengers and some notable moments in Marvel canon. Included are shots of the late 60’s Avengers lineup (Cap, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Hawkeye) Tony and Cap fighting from Civil War, Spiderwoman and Spider-Man from Secret Wars, front and Center is the 70’s Avengers lineup. Comic Watch will be releasing updates as they unfold.
