Happy Thanksgiving, Comic Watch Nation!
Thanksgiving means a lot of things to a lot of people. For some, it’s the ultimate symbol of togetherness and family (found or otherwise); for others, it’s the poster child for a whitewashed colonialist historical cherry-pick that willfully ignores a whole, whole lot of atrocities.
Both viewpoints are valid.
But whatever your perspective – and, hey, never let it be said that you can’t fall somewhere more nuanced and in the middle – today is a today where most folks have a little something to say about what they’re grateful for. Around here at Comic Watch HQ, we’re thankful for you, the readers. We’ve been around for five years now, and we’re the same scrappy, all-volunteer, DIY-ethos organization we’ve always been. We may not be one of the big news sites or have flashy corporate ownership; we may not run brain-draining listicles callously designed to maximize our (meager) ad revenue based on clicks; we may not run half-sourced rumor-mill gossip “news” pieces just to make ourselves look bleeding-edge cool. But what we do is put our hearts into everything we put out there. (We kinda have to – it’s not like we’re getting paid for all this, much as we’d love otherwise!) And we get to do that because of you, the readers.
See, what we’re doing, day-in and day-out, is having a conversation with publishers, creators, and fans. It’s our way of giving back to those creators for the countless hours of joy and love we’ve been afforded. Really, we’re all not just locked in a symbiotic relationship that would make Dylan Brock blush – we’re a family, who rely on one another to keep the other going forward. And just like your family gathered ’round today, we may not always see eye-to-eye, but at the end of the day, we still love each other, even when we disagree.
And so, thank you for your ongoing efforts and contributions that allow us to keep that conversation going. Every time you read an article by Comic Watch, like it on Facebook, share it on Twitter (or whatever platform may wind up supplanting it, now that it’s being torched by Young Mr. Burns), or whatever the heck it is you kids do on TikTok, you’re helping us keep the lights on, which in turn enables us to keep our mission going strong.
In other words, we couldn’t do it without you!
Happy Thanksgiving from the Comic Watch family to yours!
