What You Need to Know:

Ex-military soldier, Clay, has been genetically enhanced with Hulk and Wolverine DNA. As he has been on the run to protect his family, Weapon H has battled a new Wendigo, Doctor Strange, and the Man-Thing. Last issue, Weapon H was captured by Roxxon Industries as the CEO clearly been tapping into some dark forces.

What You’ll Find Out:

Through the usage of a magical binding scroll, Dario has Weapon H pinned just long enough to offer a proposition of serve and protect or suffer the unilateral treatment. Weapon H reluctantly listens to the offer but refuses to be part of the plan. Dario retaliates and orders the doctor to perform lobotomy and implant a controller in Weapon H’s optic nervous system.

The supernatural chins wore off and Weapon H is loose and angry as hell. During the escape, Weapon H notices that both the Man-Thing and the Brood pilot from issue #4 are caged like animals. Even though they both tried to kill Weapon H, he sets them free. Hesitantly, they work together and fight for their freedom, until something unexpected happens.

Weapon H is stunned to see his wife, who he strictly advised not to follow and track him. None the less, he is happy to lay his eyes on the woman that stills his heart and Weapon H transforms back to his human counterpart, Clay. Dario interrupted the reunion and uses his newfound knowledge to his advantage. Clay and his team learn that Dario has been telling the truth, but how much remains to be seen. At the moment, Clay realizes that Weapon H is needed to tackle a giant squid-like monster and save the human race!

What Just Happened?

Pak’s writing in Weapon H #5 continues to be clear, precise, and to the point. He provides more details of Weapon H’s genetic make-up and truly made this character unbeatable with untapped power. Even though this may not be as strong of a story as previous issues, Pak’s storytelling remains unpredictable with plenty of hardcore action. Pak uses his outstanding skills to give us a new Gamma-spawned dangerous “Punisher-like” hero with the brain of his human counterpart. Weapon H #5 is a fun read as Pak provides explosive action, monsters and exciting twists as Weapon H’s creator becomes a “questionable’ ally to clean up his company’s messes.

The array of artists; Smith, Pallot, Champagne, Hanna, Wong, Holloweel, and Sotomayor did a tremendous job with this issue. The artwork was amazing on the opening splash page of Weapon H pinned to the floor by magical chains and alien spikes through his chest. This art team is just insane with the outstanding details of this beast, the panel layout, and the ability to further engage in this action pack storytelling. It really caught my eye on how well this art team honed on the emotions so effortlessly and the rock hard details as Weapon H transforms into his human-self, Clay.

Rating: 8 /10

Final Thought: At the end of each Weapon H issue, my inner voice screams; “That was freakin’ AWESOME!” and then, I am compelled to reread it, lol. Pak and his creative team are explosively cohesive and makes the reader excited to find out how Weapon H handles the supernatural, the inter-dimensional squid-like monster, and – dare I say…Captain America in issue #6!
