Review
Tommy Oliveris the last Power Ranger alive. He spends his days tending his fields along with his descendant Mirella Vex and a still functioning (albeit barely) Alpha-5. He was more than content to never pick up his morpher again, that is until an older (and very senile) Goldar comes to him with one final mission.
In a lot of fans’ minds, Tommy Oliver is THE Power Ranger. He is by far the most popular as well as the one with the most colors (Green, White, Red, and Black respectively) and visibility throughout the series long run. Thanks to his status as the “cool” ranger and his actor Jason David Frank (RIP), Tommy became synonymous with the series, so it was only a matter of time before he got his own solo series. Though this first outing is a bit of a mixed bag.
Paul Allor drops readers in an interesting post-apocalyptic world with some familiar faces. Some questions answered right off that bat, while others remain a mystery to be uncovered as the series goes on. The dialogue is a bit off-beat, with both Tommy and Goldar clearly showing their respective ages, but it fits with the overall nature of the story.
Gustaffo Vargas’ art has a somewhat cartoonish feel to it, but there are some very interesting panel layouts that help compliment the pencils. Your mileage may vary depending on if it’s appealing, but overall I feel it works.
Final Thoughts
Power Rangers Green #1 is an entertaining start to this series that is sure to entice fans of the character.
