Review
This series reminds me of Marvel’s Civil War, where we have this big event and the tie-ins are all from different perspectives, which helps to give the reader a unique view that we do not often get. Usually, we follow a few characters, we choose a side, and then we move on to the next story. I am a big fan of doing things this way. Yes, I know that can make things pricey if you want all the books. For me, I am not a completionist, so I would just want to see the world from certain people’s views and understand why they made the choices they made.
This is a very violent issue, and me personally being a long-time TMNT fan, that is the way I like to see the turtles. Even with everything going on, Ninjara is the calm in the storm, and I really like that. Because when we go to her scenes, it just grounds things and takes us from the uncertainty and gore and to a place of “What do we do next? And how do we make that happen?”
If you are not the biggest fan of Slash, I get it. But this isn’t a typical Slash story; it is a version of him who is trying to be better than he was before, while also allowing himself to be vulnerable and honest about what he wants to do and what he is thinking. The artwork here is TMNT-approved. The city is full of life but mysterious, gritty but gorgeous. Pain and tragedy, yet hopeful for another day. I also love how in a world with rabbits and mutated turtles, the writers do not let the adversaries feel weaker or lesser than. This is not a walk in the park, and sometimes you have to choose a life for a life.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this is a strong issue that helps us know where Ninjara and Slash are during these events. I know this is a one-shot, but I am left wanting to know where Slash and Ninjara go from here. This fight is not over, and it looks like they are ready to help in this battle.
