DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 506: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

Considering how many villains the Legends fought, some of the Encores were bound to be their old foes. This time Astra releases Damien Darhk from Hell, which is a reasonable choice considering he once tried to nuke the entire world. She must have missed Season 3 though, because now Damien has one priority above evil: his daughter. He steals past-Gary’s Time Courier and comes to the present to visit her, which leads to some questions. All the Encores come back to life at the time of their death, do they know what the current “present” is or is Damien special because he’s a sorcerer? None of them had access to time travel before him so it hadn’t been relevant, but it could be down the line.

Well Damien couldn’t have picked a worse time, because Ray and Nora were having date night in Constantine’s house. Nora is afraid of how he’ll react, so she shoos Ray and pretends to be dating Constantine and convinces Sara and Ava to pose as her “hench people”…by invoking Book Club. They play their role, but they end up fighting because Sara hid a job offer she got from Wild Dog – Star City’s new mayor. “Arrow” may be gone but it’s still affecting the other shows.

Before long, the sham unravels and Damien attacks everyone. The other Legends get an alert on the Waverider and come to help, with the little girl Nora’s linked to in tow. She uses her fairy godmother wish to put them all in “Mr. Parker’s Cul-de-sac”, a thinly veiled version of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”. Stuck in a children’s TV show, everyone has to stop fighting and talk their problems out. Everything is pleasant and adorable, except for Gary the Unspeakable Train Abomination.

While the episode doesn’t move the plot forward much, it is full of great scenes. Damien and John’s magic duel, the return of the puppets, all of Nora’s overacting, Mick erasing his daughter’s memory…and especially, the wedding. Ray and Nora will be leaving the show next episode, so they get a nice wedding as a send-off. Damien convinces Ray to retire as a Legend so their relationship won’t be strained – a little awkwardly thrown in but hey it’s more than some characters got in the past. The only plot development is John convincing Charlie to help him get the Loom of Fate before her sisters do.

The episode ends on a bittersweet note, Damien doesn’t want to go back to Hell so he obliterates himself with Genghis Khan’s hell sword after a heartfelt conversation with Sara. That probably means he’s gone for good, though on this show you never know…
